Vsemir Soft’s rebranding began with a name for an agency of independent IT specialists. The brief brought together freedom, flexibility, structure and Russian cultural roots. The Zhuk direction drew on Ilya Kabakov’s painting of the same name: its resistance to imposed boundaries informed the naming and identity concept.
From a painting to a name
The search started with Vsemir Soft’s brief: combine IT professionals’ independence with the agency’s structured approach and Russian cultural roots. The presentation explored rivers, an archipelago and autonomous teams. The Zhuk direction connected these qualities to Ilya Kabakov’s painting The Beetle (1982). Its protagonist refuses to become part of a collection, offering a precise metaphor for freedom from imposed boundaries. The short, conversational name added adaptability, practicality and a touch of informality. The visual concept continued the idea: the Cyrillic Ж became a standalone symbol, while the letters’ structured construction retained the sense of a system.
